It was all smiles at the Moon Bounce Party!

Well, the end of Summer Fun is here yet again so this year we decided to end it with a huge celebration of new and old friends, yummy treats, and photographed memories.  Over 130 Summer Fun participants and their families attended the Moon Bounce bash at the Botanical Garden at the Cooperative Extension Office.

A musical slideshow played continuously inside where folks gathered to eat hotdogs and laugh at moments captured in time.  Outside there were two moon bounce houses, a putt-putt challenge, ring toss, and popcorn.  Candy and 4-H tattoos and stickers were given as prizes to game participants.  A 4-H Goodie Basket was raffled during the night that was stuffed with 4-H themed items.  The winner of the basket was Adrienne Walton.

Adrienne was the winner of the 4-H Goodie Basket! The basket included a t-shirt, cups, Centennial cookbook, and more!

Participants were also able to pick up a copy of the slideshow on a CD to take home and enjoy with their family.  All of the Summer Fun pictures will be uploaded to a Shutterfly account for parents to download and make prints.

The end was bittersweet.  So many fond memories were made during the summer of 2010 but we had to say goodbye to Summer Fun coordinator Angie Lawrence.  Angie did an AWESOME job this summer and she will truly be missed.  We hope she will be able to join us again next year!  We would also like to thank all of the volunteers and teens who helped us with the party, taught a summer fun class, or helped with planning.  We have top notch volunteers in Brunswick County!

Ski Trip

Wayne County 4-H has planned a Jr. Leader ski retreat on January 16-18th at Cragmont in Black Mountain. The retreat is open to youth in the 6th grade or older.  All South East District 4-H’ers are invited to attend the retreat. We will be teaching a new Science curriculum, Team Building and a short prevention activity.  We have enclosed an agenda for you.

Cost for the retreat is $95.00 which includes lodging, skies and lift tickets along with dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday, and Monday breakfast.  Participants will be responsible for lunch on Saturday, dinner at the ski lodge on Sunday, and lunch on Monday on the way home.  A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $40 is due to Mrs. Blair by December 29th.  The remaining balance of $55 is due January 5th.

We will depart from the Brunswick County Center early morning on Saturday, January 16th.    We will return in the evening on Monday, January 18th.  We will be staying at Cragmont Assembly which is a church camp.  There will be other people staying at the camp so it is important that we represent 4-H well.  The phone number for Cragmont is (828) 669-7677 to be used only in an emergency.  We will be skiing Sunday afternoon and night at Cataloochee Ski Resort.

Space for this trip will be limited and on a first come first serve basis.

To help cover the cost of the ski trip, a Krispy Kreme fundraiser will take place on Dec. 21.  Youth should ask local businesses, friends, and family to commit to buying a dozen (or more!) for $5 for delivery on Monday morning.  Report your pre-sale numbers to the office on Friday the 18th for your order to be placed. A form to keep track of your sales is available on the Krispy Kreme website by clicking on ‘Fundraisers” then fundraising forms.  We (Blair or myself) will pick up the doughnuts (and some extras for ‘on the spot’ sales) in Wilmington that morning.  A specific pickup time will be given when you order is placed on Friday.

On Friday, March 6th, 14 4-Hers from Brunswick and New Hanover Counties traveled to Boone, North Carolina together for the County 4-H Council’s annual ski trip at the Appalachian Ski Resort. Hats, gloves, and jackets were not needed as we took to the slopes for our lesson on Saturday morning. Temperatures were near 70 degrees by mid-day so it didn’t feel like a typical winter ski trip. We were able to ski all day until around 9pm that evening, taking breaks only for lunch and dinner. After a long day of skiing and snowboarding, we looked more like we had spent a day at the beach than a day in the mountains.

Here are a few pictures from our trip!

There are plenty more pictures, check here for more on our Brunswick County 4-H website. County 4-H Council is for youth ages 13-18 and meet on the 2nd Tuesday each month. If you are interested in joining just call our office to enroll.
