Brunswick County Celebrates 100 Years of 4-H October 8, 2009

Brunswick County 4-H celebrated 100 years of 4-H in North Carolina on October 5th, 2009.  The night was packed full of activities, including a Favorite Foods Fair, a 4-H themed Cake Decorating Contest, entertainment, and a time capsule dedication.  Many honors were given including a thanks to volunteer leaders for all of their time and dedication to the program, to Farm Bureau for their continual support of 4-H, to Mr. & Mrs. Earp for donating the use of their farm for the past 20 years for our Life on the Farm 3rd grade school enrichment program, and to the past Brunswick County 4-H professionals in attendance.  Thanks was also given to Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Hills, Walmart, and Lowe’s for their donations.  Entertainment was provided by Amber & Rosie Yurgel with a 4-H Cheer and by Samantha Lawrence sining “We Are 4-H.”

Attend the Family Citizenship – Washington, DC trip!! Travel via bus with other 4-Hers from the Southeast District. The group will leave from Goldsboro on Friday morning, April 17 and return on Sunday evening, April 19. There are 24 spaces available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserve your spot by paying a non-refundable deposit of $70 by February 2nd, 2009. The balance is due on March 13th, 2009. Please make checks payable to Carteret County 4-H.


The following price includes the bus, room for two nights at the National 4-H Center and one breakfast.


4 Per Room = $170 each

3 per Room = $190 each

2 per Room = $220 each

1 per Room = $350 each


Since this is a family trip, 4-Hers must be a minimum of 13 years old to attend without a parent(s) attending OR any age if a parent is attending. Adults and youth are NOT allowed to room together unless the adult is a parent/guardian. Each room has bunk beds, not double beds.

“Dancing and a Movie in the Garden” To top off the celebration of National 4-H Week, we are planning on Dance Lessons in the Garden followed by a movie.  Events start at 4PM and end at 8PM.  Make your reservations for Family Night by calling the office by October 10th.  We will start with shagging lessons with Charlie Spencer and learn line dancing with Leslie.  After dancing, we will have pizza, and then enjoy the Movie with popcorn.  The evening will cost $2.00 per person or $5.00 for the whole family.  Movie choices are “Remember the Titans”, “Finding Nemo”, “Homeward Bound” or “Happy Feet”.  Vote for your movie choice by when making reservations.
