2008 Brunswick County 4-H Participants

Each year hundreds of 4-Hers develop public speaking skills and confidence by competing with presentations and demonstrations at 4-H District Activity Day.  Participants will prepare a 5-12 minute presentation or demonstration with posters or a PowerPoint slideshow and props on a topic of their choice to give to a small audience in a classroom setting.  Participants are competing only against youth in their age division and presentation category.  This competition is open to any child age 5-18 on January 1.  The age divisions are 9-10, 11-13, and 14-18.  Youth 5-8 are able participate for experience but are not judged competitively.  This year District Activity Day will be held on June 18th at West Johnston High School in Johnston County.  Transportation will be provided from the Brunswick County Government Complex in Bolivia.

Just for completing a presentation Brunswick County participants will receive $20 Clover Dollars to use towards other 4-H events, in addition to monetary prizes for medal winners. One presentation in each category will be designated the district winner and will be eligible to compete on the state level.  Additional awards for Gold winners range from $50 to $200 and can be used as a stipend to attend the annual North Carolina 4-H Congress in Raleigh, NC. The deadline to sign up for a presentation or demonstration is June 1st. You must know your presentation topic and title by this date.  For a list of categories or to sign up, call or email Leslie Kammer, 4-H Program Assistant, at 910-253-2610 or
