This year’s statewide 4-H Bee Essay Contest topic will be “The Dance Language of Bees.” The essay contest is open to active 4-H members only. You don’t have to be a beekeeper, like bees, or even know a lot about them. Just be willing to research the topic, and be creative yet accurate. Those interested in entering the contest need to have their essays submitted to the 4-H office by February 12th, 2009. There will be cash awards for winners.

The Brunswick County “We Are 4-H” Centennial Committee held their first meeting on December 4th at the Cooperative Extension office from 5-6pm. The committee learned about contests and events that have been developed by the NC State 4-H staff. They also brainstormed for ideas to guide the year-long 4-H Centennial Celebration in Brunswick County. The Centennial Committee will meet two times in January and before scheduled Centennial events throughout the year. If you are a 4-H member, parent, volunteer, or alumni and would like to be a part of this memorable achievement, join us at our next meeting or contact me at
